Wisconsin Badgers 2013 NFL Draft Rewind

Montee Ball denver

Who knew that the University of Wisconsin would become one of the best factories for NFL prospects, it's surely come a long way in the last twenty years.

The Badgers nine top-75 picks over the last three years are as many as Ohio State, Nebraska and Michigan combined. The only two schools in the nation with more top-75 picks over that span are Alabama (13) and LSU (12).

Here’s what I thought of each of Wisconsin's three picks in the 2013 NFL Draft:

Tyler Lorenz Becomes the 5th Annual Bracket Champ

I'm lagging behind a bit on this blog post, but better late than never. A huge congratulations to Ty Lorenz who outlasted 33 other brackets to become the 2013 MadBrackets Champion. He joins this list of former champions since we've been giving out the annual trophy:

2012 - Susan Bulgrin
2011 - Mike Szombatfalvy

Ty won because he was one of only a few to pick Michigan in the Final Four and took home the trophy when Louisville won the National Championship.

Here were the other people who placed in this year's tournament:

2nd place ($85) - Robert Trader
3rd place ($34) - Dustin Anderson
4th place ($24) - Chad Breiby
5th place ($10) - Isaac Lee

Thanks to everyone for joining and I hope to see you all next year!

Green Bay Packers 2013 Draft Rewind

Eddie Lacy Packers

Let’s give Ted Thompson and his crew another pat on the back as the Green Bay Packers fan-dangled a highly regarded draft class once again.

The Packers traded for more picks, took advantage of sliding prospects and took the necessary chances on unknown players.

Here’s what I thought of each and every one of Green Bay’s ten picks in the 2013 NFL Draft:

Wisconsin’s Montee Ball a perfect fit for the Denver Broncos

NFL: Combine

With the 26th pick in the second round (58th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos made a long-life dream come true when they selected Wisconsin Badgers running back Montee Ball.

Montee Ball grew up idolizing the Broncos as a small kid, particularly running back Terrell Davis (1998 MVP and two-time Super Bowl champion).

“It’s a dream come true,” Ball said. “I’ve been a Broncos fan since the age of seven, and now to be a Bronco, is something very special.”

What will the Green Bay Packers do in the 2013 NFL Draft?

datone jones

Free agency came and went without much activity for the Green Bay Packers.

This shouldn't come as much a surprise to die-hard cheese heads because General Manager Ted Thompson and the Packers have always banked their future on the NFL Draft and the ensuing development of young talent.

Green Bay snatched up it's best two players in QB Aaron Rodgers ('05 draft) and LB Clay Matthews ('09) via the annual selection of college players and they haven't turned back since while finding countless value-picks in the Thompson era.

After a quiet off-season, what players will be on the radar of one of the NFL's premier teams in 2013?

2013 Wisconsin Badgers Spring Game notes, nuggets and tidbits

Wisconsin Badgers Spring Game

For as crazy and unpredictable as the weather has been in the state of Wisconsin, Badgers fans should let out a huge sigh of relief for the sunny and relatively nice conditions for the 2013 Spring game.

12,050 dedicated fans came out to see the Cardinal squad (defense) edge out the White team (offense) by the score of 61-47.

When looking past the completely obscure scoring system, the best story of the day was the quarterback battle between Curt Phillips and Joel Stave.

From semi-famous to Masters Champion, the evolution of Adam Scott

evolution of Adam Scott

Believe it or not, there are two relatively famous men named Adam Scott. One is known for being married to Leslie Knope on the American comedy series, Parks and Recreation, and the other is a top-ten golfer who hails from the Land Under.

The actor Adam Scott (Ben Wyatt on Parks and Rec) even had something to say about the matter back in 2009:

"We're both semi-famous within our little subcultures but neither one of us is a global mainstream behemoth. Overall, I'd say he's way more famous than I am. I think the main difference between the other Adam Scott and me is that I'm the one who doesn't give a shit about golf. I have absolutely no interest in the game whatsoever."

No disrespect to the actor's lack of golf knowledge, but Adam Scott the golfer just became that "global mainstream behemoth," with the addition of a Masters Green Jacket to his wardrobe.
