Does Tiki Barber Have Any Fantasy Value?

By: Nick Grays, Senior Writer at The Sports Bank

Over the past year, retired running back Tiki Barber has made the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Whether it was leaving his pregnant wife for the young and sexy Tracy Lynn Johnson or comparing his situation to that of Anne Frank, the media has been deservedly harsh of the three-time Pro-Bowler.

Now the 36-year old Barber plans to come out of retirement and see if he can still run with the big boys. According to an interview in the latest issue of SI, Barber is fit as he has ever been and ready to join a NFL roster as soon as the impending Lockout is ended.

Assuming Barber sticks with his goal and joins a team’s training camp, is the former All-Pro Halfback with 10,449 career rushing yards and 67 touchdowns, worth a fantasy draft pick?

Brewers Corey Hart Returns With a Bang; Three HR and Seven RBI

By: Nick Grays, Senior Writer at The Sports Bank

After having a much-needed day off on Sunday, Corey Hart returned to the Milwaukee Brewers line-up on Monday and put forth an unbelievable performance against the Washington Nationals.

Batting from the two-spot, Hart hit not one, not two, but three home-runs and accumulated a career-high seven RBI.

The three long-balls were Hart’s first, second and third of the year. With his two-run shot in the fifth inning, Hart became the 19th Brewer to hit 100 home-runs.

“Hopefully this is a start. Hopefully I can start swinging the bat better and keep it going,” said Hart following the Brewers’ 11-3 win.

Wisconsin’s Jon Leuer: NBA Draft Combine Interview (Video)

By: Nick Grays, Senior Writer at The Sports Bank

Wisconsin power forward Jon Leuer was one of 54 players invited to the NBA Draft Combine in Chicago. The former Badger has a lot to gain from workouts as Leuer projects to be picked anywhere from the late first round to mid-second round.

A lot of scouts have compared the 6’10″ forward to the Toronto Raptors Andrea Bargnani who was the number one overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft.

The Sports Bank caught up with Leuer at the NBA Draft Combine where he elaborated on his work-outs since leaving Madison, some NBA teams who have expressed interest and his versatile skill-set.

Game Three Means Everything for Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder

By: Nick Grays, Senior Writer at The Sports Bank

Game one was all about Dirk Nowitzki and his historically efficient night while game two was all about Oklahoma City’s bench play.

With the series tied at one a piece, the outcome of game three could sway the momentum and make all the difference for these offensive powerhouses.

Do the Dallas Mavericks have what it takes to win on the road or can Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook lead the Thunder to a 2-1 lead?

Milwaukee Brewers Best Pitcher: Shaun Marcum on the Road?

By: Nick Grays, Senior Writer at The Sports Bank

The Milwaukee Brewers have had their trouble on the road this season (7-15 record), particularly the offense which averages only three runs a game away from Miller Park.

Most of the Brewers pitchers are struggling with the apparent lack of run support, but not Shaun Marcum.

In his last five starts on the road, Marcum has given up only two earned runs in 34 innings for an ERA of 0.53.

The 2011 Dallas Mavericks Are Not Your Usual Choke-Artists

By: Nick Grays, Senior Writer at The Sports Bank

Over the last twelve years or so, the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs have owned the NBA playoffs while winning nine of twelve championships. One of their minor road-blocks in the West was Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks.

I say minor because the Mavericks have reeled off eleven straight seasons of 50+ wins, but have appeared in the Western Conference Finals on only three occasions over that same time-span with a lone trip to the Finals in 2006 (lost in six games to the Miami Heat).
With their well-documented disappointment in the month of May, the Mavs have been frequently labeled as one of the NBA’s biggest choke-jobs.

They seem to be following a different script this season as they held off the Portland Trail-Blazers and then annihilated the two-time returning champs. Up next, the young and battle-tested Oklahoma City Thunder.

How the NFL Lockout Affects America’s Favorite Game, Fantasy Football

By: Nick Grays, Senior Writer at The Sports Bank

According to Wikipedia, an estimated 18 million people adjust their line-ups week-to-week during the NFL regular season in a little game called fantasy football.

That’s a lot of people who may be looking for entertainment elsewhere if the NFL Lockout indeed sticks.
However, let’s make a realistic prediction and say the owners and players association figures something out and NFL football is actually played at some-point in the fall.

The next step is to think how the current lockout affects your fantasy football league now and when the lockout is lifted.

Prote-J: The Man Behind Prince Fielder’s Music

By: Nick Grays, Senior Writer at The Sports Bank

One of the best parts about attending a baseball game is listening to which songs your favorite players have chosen to announce their arrival at the plate.

Most major-leaguers choose a song off the top 40 list or decide to revive a classic hit. Not Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder though, who has taken his at-bat swagger to the next level by having an up-and-coming rapper create music specifically tailored to the slugger.

Enter Prote-J, a talented rapper/producer/songwriter from the 3rd World Country, Papua New Guinea. Fielder bumped Prote-J’s “Heir to the Throne,” in 2010 and is now walking up to the plate at Miller Park to a new track entitled “Prince of the Game.”

I recently had the opportunity to catch up with Prote-J and ask him about working with the hard-hitting first baseman and what kind of rapper he strives to be.
